The Grand Marais Playhouse is in full swing preparing for the annual Community Youth production of Shrek The Musical Jr. With a cast of 45, we are confident this show will have something for everybody! Tickets are on sale at our website, and they are expected to go fast. Don’t wait.
If you want to be a part of the magic, please volunteer to help with costumes, set, painting and make-up. We need an army to put this show together. People interested in costumes should contact Emma Bradley or Sue Hennessy or stop by the theater during any tech hours. Tech work times are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Some projects can be taken home to complete.
Contact the Playhouse or Sue Hennessy at (218) 370-0224 for more information or stop by and see what is happening.
There will be an interest meeting for anyone interested in the summer farce on April 24 at 7 p.m. at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts. Three plays will be discussed as potential selections for the summer play. Come learn more about the Summer Theater Festival. All performers and backstage crew receive a stipend for the summer musical. Come enjoy creating living art with your fellow community members and have a blast while doing it! Auditions for farce will be in May.
Auditions for Shrek The Musical (Full version, with adult cast) will be Thursday, April 26 at 7 p.m. Over 30 roles! No experience necessary. Lead roles must commit to intensive rehearsal schedule of 4-5 evenings a week. All cast members must commit to the schedule, which varies depending on role.
Some roles are open to younger performers as well. Rehearsal conflicts affect casting. All interested performers should be prepared to sing a song that demonstrates their vocal range in a contemporary musical theater style. For more information see musicaltheatreresources.com/2015/11/28/the-four-main-types-of-singing-on-broadway-today/
The Playhouse is seeking high school age students interested in stage technology for a paid summer internship position. There are three slots available. Applications are available at the Playhouse.
Work times are negotiable except for tech rehearsal and performance times. All interns are required to be on the work crew for both summer productions.
