In response to the February 28 letter to the editor about shouldering on the Gunflint Trail.
I, myself, alone, as in singular, was the first person at the scene of the accident. The shouldering was not the cause. The report stated excessive speed and poor tires.
I was also part of the crew that did the shouldering. It was not soft; it was not dumped all over the road.
When we shouldered the aggregate was placed, then spread out. The roadway was swept with a front mounted sweeper, then it was rolled and compacted with a walking roller, and then the roadway was swept again.
I was there, before the tragic accident. I was the first person to stop, I was there.
