Congratulations to Robert Stevens for his very informative January 8 letter to the editor. What he proposes for the hospital to consider sounds like a reasonable approach to eliminate, or at least greatly reduce, the apparently unlimited tax levy burden that the hospital can impose on property owners. Due to negative input from the public on the proposed 182% increase in their tax levy for 2011 over 2010, the hospital found a way to reduce the levy increase to 88%. Although this reduced increase is welcomed, the levy increase is still very significant.
I believe that the hospital administrator and board of directors now owes all property owners a response to Mr. Stevens’ letter outlining why his proposals should not or cannot be done here. I anxiously await this response in the form of coverage of a hospital board meeting published in this newspaper.
