Should the county consider purchasing/leasing electric vehicles?

How many of you have researched or watched any videos on electric vehicles?

Has anyone read Resolution #2022-18 that the county board approved, dealing with climate change?

One of the be-it-resolved statements says we will implement best practices relating to the purchase or lease of an electric fleet of vehicles.

Let’s believe we (they) are thinking down the road— say 10 years—but you and I know that too often these absurd ideas suddenly are on the table. Someone has been hired to carry them out and a new department has been created.

I believe the push will come too soon and we won’t know the problems or drawbacks of electric vehicles. My hope is you will start watching the videos on what happens when there is an accident; can people be safely removed? What if the vehicle catches fire? How many fire trucks will it take to cool down a battery pack? It is suggested at least three tankers holding 4,000 to 10,000 gallons of water (watch the videos).

Talk to our tow truck businesses and find out how excited they are to work on one? Are you a friend of spontaneous combustion? That is a possibility as it has happened. A very cold day can drain the starting battery and be aware that you may not have control as cars are preprogrammed to run when temperatures are low. Surprised to find your car is dead? Good luck being parked next to a charging station.

You know there are some things not meant for cold climates, could this be one?
