Shortchanging education damages our future

I grew up in the heart of the Depression, when schools were starved for funds. The system was in bad shape, and I will never forget how difficult it was. Education systems have improved considerably over the years, but now they are being starved for funds again.

Our society has crucial needs. We need strong health care, and we are making progress on that. We also need strong schools, and it will take your commitment to ensure that it happens for our community. I urge people to vote for both the general levy and the bond issue to sustain a strong educational system in Cook County.

I believe strongly in quality education and have worked hard to support our system by establishing the ISD 166 Education Foundation.

An educated population builds strong communities and a strong country, making life better for everyone. When every child has a good education, poverty, prejudice and the extremes of disadvantage can disappear in one generation.

In the world in which we live, that nation or community that undervalues or shortchanges education will damage its future. Don’t let that happen here. Please vote yes on both the education levy and the bond issue to support our school district.
