Shirley Ann Sylvester





 

 

Shirley Ann Sylvester, the daughter of Edward and Veronica Olson, age 65, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 13, 2016, at her home in Grand Portage.

Shirley was born June 8, 1951, in Cloquet. She was the oldest of five siblings. On July 20, 1968, she married the love of her life, Leonard Sylvester.

With her husband, they raised two daughters, Gail and Tammy, whom she loved dearly. The majority of her life she resided in Grand Portage. She loved her home she built together with her husband, quietly tucked away in the woods.

Family and friends were Shirley’s greatest passion in life. She was extremely close with her son-in-law, Wally, whom she took great pleasure in teasing and raising cain with. Shirley was fortunate to have her mom and dad her entire life, whom she loved so dearly. Her little sisters, Carol and Sharon, were her world with which she protected and loved with her whole heart. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy that she cherished so dearly, always bringing a smile to her face. Known to them as Auntie Monk, Shirley had many nieces and nephews, who meant the absolute world to her.

Shirley is survived and will be deeply missed by her husband, Leonard Sylvester; mother and father, Veronica and Edward Olson; her daughters, Tammy Custer and Gail (Wally) Deschampe; two sisters, Sharon Olson and Carol Cleveland; brother-in-laws, Tod and Dennis Sylvester; sister-in-law Bonnie (Noble) Carlson and Annette Sylvester; grandchildren

Alex (Heather) Sylvester, Cheryl James and Bradley (Neomoni), Kristen (Cameron), Katelyn (Ben), Trevor (Faryn), Kyler and Karianna Deschampe; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her sister and brother, Brian and Sheryl Olson; her brother-in-law Jeffrey Sylvester; and mother-in-law Fanny Sylvester.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 22 at the Mount Rose Community Church in Grand Portage. Burial will take place at the Mount Rose Cemetery. The family would like you to join them for a Pot Luck Lunch at the Grand Portage Community Center following the burial.
