Sheriff’s Office seeks help in finding vandals





The person who vandalized the Grand Marais water tower with a stenciled fish and the text, “mmm…sulfide,” climbed a fence to do so. More graffiti—primarily misspelled profanity—was found at the skate park and high school baseball field.

On September 18, 2014, the Cook County Sheriff ’s Office asked for the public’s help in finding the person or persons responsible for a number of incidents of property damage in Grand Marais.

Cook County Sheriff Leif Lunde said there had been nine separate incidents with the following damage: graffiti at the Grand Marais water tower, skateboard park, and school baseball field; vandalized equipment at the Grand Marais Rec. Park; broken windows at the Cook County Community Center and Cook County High School; and broken vehicle windows at various locations in Grand Marais.

Lunde said the method of breaking windows has usually been thrown rocks. The graffiti has consisted of profanities, with text of “mmm… Sulfide” along with a picture of a fish.

At press time the investigation continued. Anyone with knowledge about who may be committing these acts, please contact the Sheriff ’s Office at (218) 387-3030.
