Sheriff ’s Department Administrative Assistant Don Phillips is moving on to new endeavors. Replacing him will be Amity Goettl, moving from her position on the Law Enforcement Center staff as a dispatcher/ jailer.
On January 25, 2011, the county board approved Sheriff Mark Falk’s request to hire Goettl at a Step 2 pay rate because of the significant administrative skills she brings to the job, but the department will save money since Don Phillips was at Step 15. The sheriff said Goettl would be taking a slight pay cut to move into the new position.
Falk intends to fill the dispatcher/ jailer position from a current list of eligible applicants.
Goettl is also Lutsen Township clerk as well as a member of the Lutsen Fire Department.
Electrical outage dispatch service
The board approved an agreement with Arrowhead Electric Cooperative Inc. for the Cook County Sheriff ’s Office to provide afterhours and holiday dispatch services.
From 1991 to 1998, Arrowhead Electric had been paying $1,200 a year for the services. The contract ran out but was not renewed, and Arrowhead stopped paying but still received the services. Arrowhead agreed to pay the county a $6,000 lump sum for services provided since the last payment was made, and under the new contract it will be paying $2,400 a year starting January 1.
Arrowhead Electric customers are encouraged to call 911 to report power outages after-hours and on holidays.
