Sheriff to beef up security at courthouse

With the FBI warning that right wing extremists might be planning violence at government buildings across the country leading up to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration next week, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has deployed the National Guard to protect the capital.

Locally, Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen said he doesn’t expect any unrest in Cook County, but he is taking some precautions.

“I have heard these rumors as well and we will have someone present at the courthouse on Inauguration Day. I do not expect any protests or other civil disturbances, but we will be ready to respond in case there is,” commented Sheriff Eliasen.

Hopefully cooler heads will prevail once the new administration takes office.

President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn into office on Wednesday, January 20. Biden will be the 46th president sworn into office since George Washington took the oath of office on April 30, 1789.
