Share Christmas in a shoebox

It’s early to think of Christmas but not too early to think of preparing a shoebox for needy children around the world. Samaritan’s Purse, through Operation Christmas Child, distributes boxes to millions of children who would otherwise not receive gifts. You can reach kids in countries that have experienced floods, earthquakes, poverty and war, to let them know that someone cares about them.

It is very easy to do. Take a shoebox (not boot box or children’s size), decide what age group you prefer, and fill with appropriate things such as hygiene items, school supplies, toys and hard candy. If you don’t have your own shoebox, boxes are available at Johnson’s or at Cornerstone Community Church.

The first collection date for Operation Christmas Child is this Saturday, October 30, at Johnson’s Foods in Grand Marais from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a second collection on Saturday, November 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Completed gift boxes may also be dropped off at Cornerstone Community Church anytime from now until November 14.

One box or a dozen, this is a great way to teach children or remind yourself of the joy of giving that should be a great share of our Christmas celebration.
