Shannon Elizabeth Quinn


 

 

Shannon Elizabeth Quinn passed away on July 5, 2019 after a short battle with kidney cancer.

She was born Dec. 19, 1948 in Chicago, Ill. to John and Doris Miller Quinn. In 1956 the family moved to Lombard, a suburb 20 miles west, staying there until 1964 when her father’s company moved to Alabama. The family moved to Grand Marais, where they spent early summers.

She and her brother graduated from Cook County High School in 1966, a year after their father died. In 1966 Shannon attended St. Scholastica in Duluth, graduating with a degree in art. Upon graduation she returned to Chicago with a job as a secretary for the Nurse Anesthetists Association of Chicago.

After several years she decided to join the Army. After Basic it was off to Germany. A year or two later during field exercises she hurt her back and was medivacked to Walter Reed Hospital for back surgery. She spent the next few years between Texas and Massachusetts Army bases, and left the Army after 10 years.

She returned to Minnesota and got a job with General Services Administration in the Twin Cities. This is the Walmart for government offices federal and state. Finally back problems forced her to call it quits.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her father John in 1965 and mother Doris in 1995.

She is survived by brother Terence, a retired Naval CPO.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Grand Marais. It is asked that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Minnesota Cancer Fund.
