Sergeant First Class Michael Ross of Lutsen, a member of the US Army Reserve, has been recalled to active duty and will be deploying to Afghanistan in a few weeks with the 309th Engineer Company.
Ross, who is employed at Taconite Harbor Energy Center and is a Lutsen volunteer firefighter, served in the Army over 20 years ago. He attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and was stationed in Germany, in the Mojave Desert of California, and served in the Gulf War in 1990 – 1991.
Ross, a combat engineer (21 Bravo), will participate in training at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin before heading to Afghanistan. He will be deployed for a total of 400 days.
Ross thanked the community for its support of him and his family. He said, “I’ll be back around this time next year.”
