Area coaches liked the way the kids from Cook County played nine-man football this past season, and with that, voted to give seven Vikings All-District honors.
The team finished 8-2 and was runner-up in section nine-man championship game.
Both Dillon Sjogren, a linebacker and fullback, and Connor Somnis, a wide receiver and defensive back, received All- District honorable mention.
Named to the All-District first team was quarterback Josh Prom, a quarterback and linebacker; Joe Deschampe, an offensive guard and defensive tackle; Jack Haussner, a wide receiver and defensive back; Andrew Miller, who played linebacker and everywhere on offense, including quarterback; and Keenan Hingos, a junior center who was a defensive tackle and the only non-senior named All-District.
Josh Prom also shared district 9 Blue back of the year honors with South Ridge’s running back Joe Janke and Joe Buffetta, the quarterback from Mountain Iron- Buhl.
This group of graduating seniors, which includes Cameron Roy, Tristan Bockovich, and Levi Sheils, has won 70 percent of their football games since the ninth grade. Their record is 15 and 3 when they play at home. In fact, the Vikings haven’t lost at home since October 2, 2015.
In his first year as head coach, Bryan Carpenter praised his outgoing seniors.
“They have been very dedicated and have been a great group to coach. They deserved to go to state this season and are one of the best teams in the state. With the whole team, I would have played anyone in the state and been confident that we could win. They have a lot to be proud of.”
The Vikings finished their year with an 8-2 record, losing a close game to Mountain Iron-Buhl for the right to play at state.
