In only its first year playing nine-man football, the Cook County High School Vikings vied for a chance to go to state, losing the Section 7A championship game to the Ely Timberwolves. The team ended up with a 7-4 record, ending a two-year winless streak. One of the losses included a last second heartbreaker to the Silver Bay Mariners, who qualified for a state berth through another section.
Opposing coaches noticed the improved play and voted to give seven Viking players conference honors. All of them are seniors who fought hard, trained hard, and played hard. They leave big shoes to fill, but have brought the program back to prominence.
Four Vikings were named to the Polar League All- Conference First Team, Jack Wieben, Andrew Lashinski, Frankie Miller and Owen Anderson, while three Vikings, Rory Bakke, Dylan Works, and Leo Johnson were named Honorable Mention.
