Sentence to Serve crews productive last fall




Cook County’s adult Sentence to Serve crew contributed 608 hours of labor in the last quarter of 2009, and its juvenile crew contributed 52 hours. The estimated market value of this work was $9,990. One hundred and one jail days were saved through this program. At $52 a day, that totals $5,252 in savings.

The crews did storm cleanup around the area, collected pine cones for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), burned brush along the Arrowhead Trail, and did some construction at the DNR office in Grand Marais. Their work benefitted the DNR, the City of Grand Marais, the county, and local schools.
