Senior Legion Cook County/ Silver Bay falls to Proctor

Proctor took a 2-0 lead after the first inning and proceeded to put seven more points on the board in the next two innings to race off to a 9-0 lead against the Senior Legion Cook County/Silver Bay Vikings in a Division ll District 8 playoff game held Saturday, July 17 in Ely.

The Vikings managed one run in the fifth inning and fell 10-1.

Proctor finished with 13 hits to five for the Vikings.

Ero Wallin took the loss on the mound. Ero allowed nine hits and nine runs in two and two thirds’ innings while striking out three.

Grant Walker took the win on the mound for Proctor. Grant threw six innings. He allowed one run on five hits and struck out three.

Proctor players didn’t commit a single error in the game while the Vikings committed only one error.

Five Vikings each got one hit. They were Tate Crawford, Lucas Stadler, Ero Walliin, Hunter Gomez and Amos Falter.

Three Proctor players got two hits, Nolan McLeod, AJ Reylets, Connor Pavlowich. Kennan Reyelts led all batters with three hits.

With the win Proctor moved on in the double elimination tournament. The loss sent the Vikings into a late evening game with International Falls.

Vikings Senior Legion Cook County/Silver Bay team falls to the ‘Falls’

International Falls Senior Legion baseball team used strong pitching and late inning runs to power past the Cook County/Silver Bay Senior Legion baseball team in the Division ll District playoff game that followed the Vikings’ game against Proctor.

With the 11-1 victory, International Falls advanced to the Northeast Substate Tournament, and the Sr Legion CC/SB team’s loss ended their playoff hopes.

International Falls took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Cody Joslyn drew a walk that brought in one run. Neither team scored in the second, but the Falls managed two in the third, one run coming when Bryant Koenig drew a walk and one run coming from a wild pitch from Viking pitcher Jacob Dorr that allowed a second run to score.

The Vikings put up their lone point on the scoreboard in the third but that was it. The Broncos salted the game away with four runs in the fourth and four in the fifth. RBIs by Julius Maish, Jett Tomczak and Joe Talmage provided all the offensive firepower the Broncos needed.

Riley Larson was outstanding on the mound for International Falls. Riley pitched five innings, allowing one run off one hit while striking out six and walking four.

Jacob Dorr took the loss for the Vikings. Jacob pitched four innings, allowing eight runs on six hits and six walks. Patrick Pierre relieved Jacob. Patrick gave up four hits and three runs in relief.

Jett Tomczak was 2-4 with two RBI’s; Joe Talmage was 2-2 with two RBI’s and Riley Larson was 1-3 with two RBI’s. Tucker Hell ended his night by going 2-3 at the plate while Bryant Koenig walked twice, scoring one run, and getting an RBI on a walk. Julius Maish was 1-1and had one RBI in his only appearance at the plate. Matt Wherley also saw the ball well, going 2-3 in his at-bats.

Both teams finished with two errors.

Senior Legion Cook County/Silver Bay team takes close loss against Ely

On a great night for baseball, the Cook County/ Silver Bay Sr Legion baseball team played their last game of the year against the Ely Timberwolves Senior Legion baseball team and fell 6-4.

The Vikings shut down the Timberwolves in the first inning with two putouts, a catch on a flyball hit to left field and a catch and throw by shortstop Ero Wallin to first base. That and a strike out by pitcher Patrick Pierre led to a one, two, three out inning.

Meanwhile, the Vikings put two runners on in the first. One on an error and then a smash single by Ero Wallin that got by the Ely shortstop. Still, the Vikings were unable to score.

Ely scored three runs in the second, one on an RBI single and one run came in on a wild pitch. The Vikings failed to score in their at bats. Ely pushed another run across the plate in the third, one in the fifth and one in the seventh to hold on as the Vikings came back with one in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Patrick Pierre took the loss. Patrick pitched two innings, giving up three runs off three hits. He struck out one and walked one batter. Tate Crawford came in relief and threw five innings. Tate allowed eight hits and gave up three runs.

Each team finished with one error. Ely batters walked six times while the Vikings only managed two walks.

Both teams finished with 11 hits. Patrick Pierre and Lucas Stadler each had three hits while Tate Crawford had two. Three other Vikings, Ero Wallin, J Shannon and Ray Dressley each finished with one hit.
