Senior Center welcomes visitors of all kinds

January was the start of another year and for some of us the ending to the previous year. Typically I am busy with all the year-end paperwork needing to be wrapped up and closed out. Actually this year was pretty easy for me. Maybe I was more organized. I don’t know for sure, but I am glad it is done.

The Senior Center had a new addition for a few days in January. I actually thought maybe that she would become the Senior Center Dog. As most of our readers probably know, I work with Arrowhead Animal Rescue. In January I took in a dog with an injured paw. She had been having vet care and needed to have her paw looked after. I decided it best for her to come home with me to foster rather than be put in the pound by herself. The day I got her I brought her back down to the Senior Center while I finished closing up.

Folks who were at the Senior Center thought she was so sweet and could be the Senior Center dog. She came with me for a few days and spent all day here eating up all the attention she could get. She is now adopted out and has a great new and loving home. Well-behaved dogs are always welcome to come and visit. Free treats too!

Anyone who rides the Senior Center bus on trips will look cute and cozy in these new blankets. Happy to show off the polka dots were (L-R) Gladys Anderson, Director Bev Green, Tom Hedstrom, Renette Pearse.

On Thursday, January 29, we celebrated Betty Wilson’s 90th birthday. Two of her sons joined her for lunch, Don Wilson and Perry Wilson. After lunch more of her friends and family came in to share birthday cake with her. It is always nice to have family members join us for lunch and birthdays.

On February 27 and 28, Marjori Bottila will be here to help with Medicare decisions and information. She will be taking appointments on Thursday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. On Friday she will take appointments from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. she will be presenting on 2015 Medicare changes. Then from 12:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. she will have individual counseling sessions. Please call for an appointment for the free counseling session. The presentation is open to anyone. No reservation needed.

Keep warm and remember warmth comes in many forms.

Cook County has a vibrant and active community of elders. Each week we will offer Senior News to highlight our senior citizens. This week’s submission is about the Cook County Senior Center, courtesy of Director Bev Green.
