The highlight of February was on Thursday, February 16. A group of 13 of us traveled up the Gunflint Trail for a delicious lunch at Trail Center, followed by a wonderful and scenic sleigh ride at Okontoe. We all had a great time and would like to extend a special thank you to Sarah Hamilton of Trail Center and the Patten Family of Okontoe.

The Senior Center has been considering the possibilities and options of changing our daily lunch and Meals on Wheels programs. We are hoping to make some improvements and would greatly appreciate your input. Your opinions really do matter. You are the voice and the heart of the Senior Center.

Please call or stop in the Senior Center and pick up a copy of the survey.

We are still in need of a permanent very part-time volunteer Meals On Wheels driver for Thursdays. Substitute drivers are available if you need a day off. This is a commitment of about 1 – 1 ½ hours per week. You need your own vehicle. It is a great way to bring smiles and of course food to many homebound residents. Please call Ann at the Senior Center for more details at 387-2660.

There is still room and the deadline has been extended to sign up for the Senior Center’s fabulous trip to Branson, Missouri. Currently four Cook County residents are going, so get in touch with the Senior Center by March 9 to join them for this trip out of the drab and into full blooming spring weather!

Please call or stop in the Senior Center to reserve your spot 387- 2660. A deposit of $75.00 per person is required. The trip will be April 15 – April 21, 2012. The cost is $549, plus transportation cost from Grand Marais to Duluth. The Diamond Tours trip includes motor coach transportation, six nights lodging (four consecutive nights in Branson), 10 meals, admission to seven great Branson shows (Red Skelton Tribute, Jim Stafford, Acrobats of China and more).

For an in-town break, consider joining our Gentle Exercise group, which meets every Wednesday and Friday at 10:00-11:00 a.m. here at the Senior Center. This is a great way to help you stay in shape and remain flexible and mobile. You may exercise at your own pace, even from a chair. Group leaders are Peggy Struck and Walt McCarthy. The cost is free and no registration is required.

As always, the Senior Center is open and welcoming to all of all ages!
