Last month we travelled up the Gunflint Trail and enjoyed a delicious lunch at Gunflint Lodge. On our way up, we were lucky to see a small bear, probably a 2-year-old, run across the road. After lunch, we headed to Trail Center to enjoy dessert!
We topped off the day with some touring of back roads. We were lucky to have beautiful weather that day. The trip was enjoyed by all as we returned home with our bellies full of good food and smiles on our faces from enjoying the good company of all!
Another fun trip is coming up on Sunday, October 20. The Grand Portage Casino Express will be heading to Grand Portage Lodge for Polka Fest. Transportation is free for those who sign up early and board at the Senior Center. Call the center of more information.
The Senior Center is more than adventurous trips; we offer many community services such as:
. Minnesota Department of Transportation driver’s license exams: MN/DOT is at the Senior Center the second and fourth Tuesday of each month for driver’s exams. Written exams are given at 10:00 a.m. For road tests you must schedule an appointment by calling 218-628-4925.
. Gentle Exercise is held here at the Senior Center every Wednesday and Friday at 10:00 a.m. This is a free program and is open to everyone.
. Blood pressure and blood sugar checks are available at 10:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. A nurse from Sawtooth Mountain Clinic is at the Senior Center to take blood pressures and test blood sugar levels.

. Emergency Phone Service: The Senior Center provides special phones and call devices to Cook County residents. These pendants, wristbands, and phones allow residents to summon medical help when needed and provide security to help seniors stay in their own homes. There is a $30 per month charge for monitoring service and a $30 installation charge.
. Legal Aid: An attorney from Northeastern Minnesota Legal Aid is available to answer questions on a first-come, first-served basis, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month.
. Public Computers The Senior Center has three computers for public use. They have high speed Internet service. We also offer free Wi-Fi at the Senior Center. The public computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We do not have any time limits; we ask that if there are others waiting, please share.
