Senior Center to close its doors!

Is that what this community wants to hear? That is what will likely happen if our discretionary funding from the county is taken away. Many families in this community and beyond will go without services or the help they need to live a quality life in Cook County.

Your family and friends will go without meals they rely on, Meals on Wheels or dining in. They will go without emergency equipment that could mean life or death in the event they are ill or unable to get to a phone to call for help. Imagine living alone and having no place to be able to socialize and laugh with others. Who is going to help your mother or father figure out that Medicare maze of plans? Snowbirds, while you are away, we are available to provide support to your loved one in the event they need help with everyday tasks.

We bring together different age groups. We are getting ready to finish up our Operation Family Christmas program. Our Intergenerational Reading Program will be starting in January, adults and kids reading together. Public computers are available for all ages.

Our building is used by others for meetings of all kinds day and night, State of Minnesota DMV driver’s testing, Arrowhead Transit headquarters, birthday parties, baby showers, you name it, it probably has happened at the Senior Center.

This is just a sampling of what goes on at the center when our doors are open. Without our county funding, these doors will not stay open very long and then who is going to provide the support? Please think long and hard about cutting the Cook County Council on Aging/ Senior Center funding. Our community should not have to go without help when they need it most.
