Senior Center holiday happenings for December

In November we kept busy with our food shelf drive, which turned out to be a huge success! The community really pulled together and we were able to present the Cook County Food Shelf with over 500 pounds of food and almost $600 in cash.

During one of the Fridays of the food drive, the 4th grade kids that participate in our Intergenerational Reading Program walked down to the center, with bags full of not only books but also food to be donated!

I was amazed at the generosity of the community as a whole and we are so thankful for the donations made to the food shelf and also the prizes that local businesses donated for our raffle.

This weekend the Senior Center is having a Community Rummage Sale. The dates are December 12 and 13, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. This is a sale hosted by the Senior Center and put on by a number of local people. There will be items from Thirty One, Tastefully Simple, Jamberry Nails, Scentsy, along with a lot of great used items…. clothes (newborn to adult), ski equipment, household items, jewelry, toys, microwave, electronics, DVDs, furniture, storage units, shoes, books, Wii/Xbox games, educational devices for kids, etc.

The Sawtooth Elementary 4th graders who participate in the Cook County Senior Center’s Intergenerational Reading Program also took part in the Senior Center’s Fall Food Drive. When they walked to the center with their books, they also brought lots of food to be given to the Cook County Food Shelf.

On December 17, we have our annual Christmas party. We will be serving a full turkey dinner for lunch at 12:00 p.m. At 12:30 p.m. we will play a Christmas gift exchange game. This game creates a lot of laughter and there is no need to know how to play! Just show up with a wrapped gift (valued at $10 or less) and be ready to have fun.

At 1:15 p.m., we will serve hot apple cider and cookies while we play Christmas bingo. We have local musicians who have volunteered their talent and time to play music for the party so please come join the festivities. As always, all ages are welcome. We just ask that if you are joining us for lunch please call by 9:30 a.m. on the 17th to reserve your spot.

During the month of December we are having an ongoing holiday sale of Christmas cards, ornaments, wrapping paper, gift bags and fun gift boxes. You can buy just one card for 50 cents, a set of them for $3 or fill up one of our gift bags for $5! Everything else is $2 or less. We have something for everyone and such a huge variety of cards, etc. It really is a great place to get these items!

Seniors at the Cook County Senior Center have collected a nice variety of cards and collectibles and are offering them for sale as a holiday fundraiser.

We are so incredibly thankful for all who pass through these doors and give us the chance to be a part of their day. As a thank you we would like each person that stops in, for any activity or service that we provide or that is hosted in the Senior Center building to enter their name into our drawing for a chance to win a free Christmas turkey. The drawing will be held at our Christmas party on December 17.

Happy Holidays!
