During the month of August donations of school supplies are being collected at the Senior Center in Grand Marais.

According to Jes Rodne, programs and services coordinator at the Senior Center, “We want to have children prepared to be successful students, and to be successful they need to have the right tools!”

Rodne points out that each year the cost of supplies creeps up as the list of learning necessities for each student grows even longer. “This can be a real hardship for a lot of families and more often than not, the child goes without or the cost of supplies falls upon our teachers. Let’s join together as a community to ensure that each student starts the school year with the supplies they need,” Rodne said.

Supplies needed include crayons, washable markers, wide ruled notebooks, dry erase markers, watercolor paint, bottle or sticks of glue, erasers, pencils, colored pencils, scissors and markers.

The Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or special arrangements can be made for pick-up.
