The Grand Marais Senior Center started off the holiday season right with a wonderful gathering at the Senior Center. New Assistant Director Kristen Sobanja said, “Our doors were open to help herald in the season along with the Christmas Parade. We had coffee, hot apple cider, cookies and even a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus! Santa and Mrs. Claus visited with the kids—both young and old.”
Sobanja said it was wonderful to have the Cook County Middle School band serenade outside with Christmas cheer before and after the parade.
Photos of kids with Santa were taken by local photographer Bruce Johnson with his assistant, Cheryl Johnson, and made into wonderful greeting cards. All of this was provided to the community at no charge. “We would like to thank all of our volunteers who helped make this festive celebration possible,” said Sobanja.
Assorted packs of Christmas cards are great gifts and are now available at the Senior Center. These are packs of 25 for $2.00. Sobanja said, “This is a great value. Stop in and pick up a few packs, and help support your local Senior Center.”
The Senior Center offers a monthly newsletter, complete with an activities calendar, lunch menu, news, puzzles and games. Stop in and pick up a newsletter, stay informed and be ready to come in and participate. Daily menus and many of the activities are listed daily on the Boreal Access’s Community Calendar at www.boreal.org.
TheSenior Center and Arrowhead Transit will be closed on Christmas Eve, Friday, December 24th, and also New Year’s Eve, Friday, December 31.
Sobanja added, “We would like to thank our community and volunteers for all of their support throughout the year. Without your support and participation, we could not exist. Thank you and Happy Holidays.”
