Ely pushed three runs across the plate in the fifth inning to take a decisive lead in the Thursday, July 23 game against Cook County/Silver Bay (CC/SB) Senior Babe Ruth.
The game was played in Ely.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Jacob Dorr drove in the tying run on a single in the second inning for CC/SB.
Ely took the lead back in the third inning on two runs behind a single by Will Davies that brought in two runs.
The boys from the North Shore answered with one run in the top of the fourth. Taking a 2-2 count, Tate Crawford drove the next pitch into the outfield for a double, which scored one run and brought the score to 3-2.
Ely’s big fifth three-run inning was led by an RBI (run batted in) single from Dalton Screffler and a double by Zach Cheney.
Taking the mound and the loss for the Vikings was Andrew Miller. Miller pitched three innings, striking out seven, walking five, while allowing four hits and three runs.
Paul Dorr came on in relief and pitched three innings. Allowing six hits, four runs, one strike out and giving up two bases on balls.
Bryce Langwell was the victorious pitcher for Ely. Langwell pitched seven innings, allowing three hits, four runs while striking out three and giving up five walks.
Jacob Dorr, Andrew Miller and Tate Crawford were the only CC/SB players to get a hit in the game.
Tyler Mattson led Ely by going 3-4 at the plate. Ely finished with ten hits in the contest and won 7-4.
Ely finished with two errors, CC/SB had four.
