With both teams playing great baseball, and both sides evenly matched, it wasn’t too surprising the game would come down to the last play, and it did, with the CC/SB Senior Babe Ruth team coming out on the short end of the stick—or bat, as it were, losing 4-3.
The game was played on Friday, July 24, in Aurora on a hot and muggy evening. Coming off a game against Ely the night before, with some kids playing both the VFW and Senior Babe Ruth games, it was quite a weekend of baseball.
Tied 3-3, Taconite rallied in the ninth on a single by Ty Donahue that drove in the winning run.
Isaiah Deschampe started things off for the local team with an RBI single in the first inning.
CC/SB led 2-0 after one and 3-0 after five innings. Taconite rallied for two runs in the six and a tying run in the seventh. Both teams were scoreless in the eighth, which led to the dramatic ninth-inning finish.
