Clouds splayed and played across the sky and splashed some rain over the county on the afternoon of July 14, but by early evening the clouds receded and gave way to splendid sunshine. It turned into the perfect evening for a game of baseball.

The Senior Babe Ruth Cook County/Silver Bay (CC/SB) baseball team hosted the team from Aurora at the Arleigh Jorgenson field and quickly posted a 4-0 lead after the first inning. With the bases loaded, a patient Joe Deschampe stood in the batters box and took a pitch on the shoulder to drive in the first run.

Looking sharp on the mound, Andrew Miller got the win for his team. Andrew pitched three innings, striking out five while giving up two runs and three hits. While his control wasn’t perfect, Miller’s velocity and movement on his pitches were too much for the Aurora hitters when he was in the strike zone.

Kole Anderson and Paul Dorr came in to relieve Miller and both pitched well, preserving the team’s 8-2 lead through the seventh and final inning.

Wielding a big bat, Ero Wallin ended his night with one hit and two RBI’s.

Ty Laugen battled hard for four innings for Aurora. He allowed eight runs on six hits while striking out seven.

Both teams scored one run in the second inning and Aurora added a second run to its total in the third. CC/SB tacked on three runs in the fourth inning to end all of the scoring for the night. Aurora batters finished with five hits in the game

Lucas Stadler and Joe Deschampe led CC/SB in hits with two each. All in all the team recorded nine hits on the day. Playing sharp as a pin the field, CC/SB didn’t commit any errors and Joe Deschampe led all fielders with ten chances.

Also picking up hits for the home team were Ero Wallin, who had two RBIs (runs batted in), Kole Anderson, one RBI, Danny Deschampe, two RBIs, Timmy Perfetto, one RBI, and Andrew Miller had one hit.

Miller, Deschampe and Lucas Stadler each had one double.

Batting left handed, Hunter Levander led Aurora with two hits in three appearances at the plate.

Danny Deschampe let this ball go by. He finished with one hit and two RBI’s.
