A tractor-trailer driven by Justin Luczak, 21, of Duluth, ran off the road near Schroeder at about 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 13. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Luczak was traveling east and had successfully driven past the difficult corners near mile marker 75 when his 2006 Freightliner apparently got too far over on the shoulder, hit the soft shoulder, and was pulled into the ditch.
Luczak was not injured and the semi did not appear to be damaged. The truck was hauling a load of liquor. The truck was far enough into the ditch on the lake side that traffic was not impeded. Lake City Towing of Superior was contacted to pull the semi out of the ditch.
State Patrol Trooper Chris Thostenson said low visibility and blowing snow contributed to the accident. No citation was issued.
