Over 100 parents, family members, and friends visited Great Expectations School this week to view student art and read student reflections on their pieces. The self-portraits included paintings, collages, plaster masks, and more—all representing students’ increasing understanding of themselves as individuals and as learners.
“We hold this event each year as part of the school’s philosophy of emphasizing the social and emotional development of children,” said school Director Peter James. “The reflections become deeper and more personal as students move from kindergarten through eighth grade, and provide the basis for connecting students to their environment, community, and studies.”
Visitors also had a chance to create some of their own art, including paper bag puppets and face painting.
