In light of recent talk on security issues I am concerned and frustrated as to how we are going about it. There is talk on limiting access. Locking doors, etc., wouldn’t stop anyone. Lock all doors, if someone wants in, they will find a way. They could wait for you to go to your car or home, etc. You can’t be 100% safe all of the time.
Maybe instead of updating security features we should get to the heart of the problem and try fixing the people in these cases before they reach their breaking point. Make people take psychological tests. Have groups like AA meetings. Talk to pastors. Mandate reading the Bible. Have random searches of cars or homes of felons.
I understand guns are banned in the courthouse, except for the new law pending that would allow the county attorney to carry one. That doesn’t say if the attorney will or won’t, and who is to say he won’t lose it and if he’s the only one with a gun on the premises, who wins?
Why are we limiting the rest of society because of one person’s actions? If everyone carried a gun or even owned one, violent crimes would go down. Statistically in right-to-carry states, violent crimes have gone down 24%. The murder rate is 28% lower and robbery 50% lower than the rest of the country, according to www.justfacts.com.
I know you can find statistics on any issue but had a juror, judge or courthouse employee had a gun to defend themselves the outcome could have been different—or possibly would not have happened at all. If a person doesn’t know who has a gun or weapon to defend themselves, they may act differently. Criminals themselves say that is enough to sway them from committing a crime in the first place.
I do not condone killing another human being, but I support eliminating the threat of bodily harm. I am for allowing everyone who is not a felon to own and carry. I encourage the sheriff to provide more training to conceal-and-carry permit holders, as well as classes on weapons and tactics of self-defense, so God forbid, if you had to use a weapon you would be more familiar and effective in actions.
My point is that we would be safer with more guns, not less.
