Thesecond week of bear season saw a fairly large jump in registrations. At press time, Buck’s Hardware in Grand Marais had the highest number of bears registered, 45. The location with the next highest registration was Mike’s Holiday in Tofte with 33.
Lockport General Store reported eight bears registered. Windigo Lodge on the Gunflint Trail has had six male bears registered. The Hovland Post Office reported that three bears have been registered.
Bear season runs through October 18, and in accordance with Minnesota statutes, which authorize the use of bait, hunters are now stocking bait stations. Buck’s Hardware reminds bear hunters to bring in the bear or some part of the bear for registration or hunters will be refused registration.
