With a name like Kerry Leeds, can he ever lose? Well, at least he can when it comes to bringing in the heaviest field dressed buck, it seems.

Kerry held the top spot in Buck’s Big Buck contest over the first week with his 218 pound entry, but relinquished it when Duon Olson brought in a 224 pound beast that took over first place in the contest.

As far as holding the lead in the largest antler spread, well, Kerry Leeds still leads that contest with his entry of 20 ½ inches.

The winner of the heaviest (largest dressed weight) buck will receive a new rifle. Half of the entry money will go to the hunter who brought in the deer with the biggest antler spread, and the other half of the money will go to the winner of the drawing, which is pulled from the pool of 393 applicants who paid $10 each to enter.

As of Tuesday, November 17, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said Minnesota firearm hunters registered 157,126 deer harvested during the firearm season.

Abraham Avery brought in a buck that weighed 204 pounds and had an antler spread of 18-7/8 inches.
