Cook County Public Health (PHHS) and Sawtooth Mountain Clinic (SMC) announce that they will make the second mRNA COVID-19 booster vaccine available to eligible candidates starting on April 14, 2022, at the Cook County Community Center.
Both the CDC and FDA made recommendations this week that allow a select group of individuals to receive a second mRNA COVID-19 booster vaccine, four months after their initial booster dose.
Eligible candidates for a second booster include: those ages 50 and older, people living with moderately or severely compromised immune systems and those ages 18 and older who received both an initial and a booster dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. If there are questions about whether you fall into one of these groups and should receive a second booster, please contact your medical provider for guidance.
Due to the high number of newly eligible people who fall into the eligible group for second boosters, PHHS and SMC will be re-opening the vaccine site at the Cook County Community Center. While second boosters will eventually move onsite at SMC, the large volume of eligible individuals will be accommodated at the larger Community Center site for now. Those who are interested in a second booster should register online at the COVID-19 Response HUB site (cookcountycovid19.org) or by calling 218-387-3620. The registration link will be live on the hub site at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 4. There is no charge to the patient for a 2nd booster dose or any of the COVID-19 vaccines.
Those 12 and older who are due for an initial booster, or their primary vaccination series are also welcomed to sign up for an appointment at the Community Center. Children ages 5 – 11 and those needing a first booster or their primary vaccine series can continue to schedule a vaccination at Sawtooth Mountain Clinic by calling 218-387-2330.
Masks will be required for vaccine events at the Community Center which is located at 317 W 5th Street, Grand Marais, MN 55604. For detailed updates on Cook County COVID-19 information, please visit our COVID-19 Response Hub: cookcountycovid19.org.
