The Cook County Highway Department lifted all seasonal load restrictions at 12:01 Thursday, June 18, and all gravel roads are open to legal haulers.
Cook County thanks everyone for their patience while conditions were monitored throughout the spring season. Seasonal load restrictions are put into place to protect roads from damage or failure during the spring thaw when melting snow and rain can saturate road base material. Damage done to roads is usually deeper than just on the surface and can end up costing thousands of dollars to repair.
Haulers are asked to be mindful of posted bridges, which have year-round varying load restrictions, on some Cook County highways.
