Seasonal Grand Marais border station opens May 15

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Inspection Station at Grand Marais will open for the summer tourist season on May 15.

The Grand Marais border station is located within the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Grand Marais. This border station serves individuals arriving from Canada via small boat to the Gunflint Trail area. In addition, vessels arriving via Lake Superior at Grand Marais Harbor must call the Grand Marais station to report arrival and arrange for inspection.

The Grand Marais station also services the Cook County Airport and a sea plane base located on Devil Track Lake. Applications for the I-68 permit can be made in person at the Grand Marais border station during normal business hours. The I68 permit allows boaters to enter the United States from Canada for recreational purposes and report their arrival to CBP from a telephone at the earliest opportunity.

The Grand Marais inspection station is a seasonal facility, open during the summer tourist season, May 15 to September 30. Hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. To contact an officer at the station, call (218) 387-1148.
