There is a growing movement across the globe and across denominations focusing on Creation Care. One way this emphasis is being held up is through an annual Season of Creation. Just as many churches have seasons—Advent, Epiphany, Easter, Lent, etc. (color-coded, we like to say)—so many churches worldwide have adopted a new season to honor the Creation and to prioritize our work on behalf of the planet.
This year, from August 28th through October 2nd, Spirit of the Wilderness Episcopal Church and the United Church of Christ in Grand Marais are initiating this Season of Creation. We are using some different liturgies, prayers and songs (many from different parts of the world) to focus our attention on our needy planet. We are encouraging involvement in some of Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light’s projects, including rain garden work near the library.
This Season of Creation will culminate in two special services, to which the whole community is invited. On September 18th, we will gather at the UCC church, outside (weather permitting) for a Season of Creation jazz service. On September 25th, we will gather at Maple Hill Church, also outside for a Season of Creation service, with a pick up choir, meeting at 9:30 a.m.. Buff Grace, of Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light will bring a message that day.
Both services will be held at 10:30 a.m., and all are welcome! If you have questions, please contact Enno at the UCC church (218-387-2113) or Mary Ellen at Spirit of the Wilderness Episcopal Church (218-387-1536).
