Season ends in semifinal game

The Cook County girls’ spectacular basketball season ended on Wednesday, March 9, in Hibbing in a Section 7A semifinal game against Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB).

The morning after the game Head Coach T.J. Super said, “It was the worst day of the year. It always feels like this when you lose.”

Super felt bad for his players and fans. His squad had performed brilliantly all season, and now the season was over.

In the end, it was too much Charlotte Overbye. The sensational MIB scorer tallied 40 points for her team, including six 3-pointers. Ashley Deschampe led all Viking scorers with 31 points, including five 3-pointers.

The 9-point difference in scoring between Deschampe and Overbye was the difference in the score as MIB won 66-57.

The Vikings ended their season with a 20 – 4 mark. MIB now faces Floodwood to see who will represent Section 7A at state. That game was played Friday, March 11.

A complete wrap up of the Vikings’ season will be in next week’s paper.
