A call went out to Cook County Search and Rescue at 9:26 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13 asking for help to find a possible lost hiker. Thomas Potter, 59, of Madison, Wisconsin had set out early in the day from the trailhead of the Caribou Rock hiking trail off the Hungry Jack Road.
Members of the Cook County Search and Rescue, North Division, gathered on Hungry Jack Road and set out on the trail. At about 10 p.m., a searcher radioed that he heard a banging sound up the trail. The sound led them to a hiker near the Rose Lake Portage.
The hiker was not injured but was lost. He did not need any medical attention.
Search and Rescue was cleared of the scene at 10:22 p.m.
