At its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, the county board approved the lower of two bids for plumbing and the lower of two bids for electrical work for improvements to the Search and Rescue building. The upgrades will improve the facilities for training and responses to community-wide emergencies.
Last month, Emergency Management Director Jim Wiinanen had submitted one bid for plumbing and one bid for electrical work, but the board asked him to obtain more bids. Before requesting the bids a second time, Wiinanen and department liaison Jan Hall added to the list of electrical work to be done. Nordic Electric had submitted the electrical bid the first time but came in higher than the second bidder on its second round of bidding.
A motion was approved to hire Nosker Plumbing for $1,500 (lower than County Plumbing & Heating’s bid of $1,875) and Jonathan Hedstrom and Dave Bartz for $3,240 (lower than Nordic Electric’s bid of $3,350). County staff will install partitions at a cost of $711.06 for materials from Sawtooth Lumber, less than the $1,000 estimate submitted last month.
The upgrades will create better spaces for training and radio communications, with wall space for projecting training videos, displaying maps, writing on whiteboards, and posting documents on bulletin boards. Also included will be outlets for computers, printers, and battery chargers as well as a shower in the bathroom area and a water supply near the garage door for cleaning vehicles.
