The North Shore community united in a search for a missing man on February 10 after notices went out to law enforcement from White Bear Lake to Grand Marais. Because of communication with family members, authorities believed Joshua Papenheim, 20, of White Bear Lake, was heading to Grand Marais and that he was suicidal. Unfortunately he was found deceased on Friday, February 12, 2016.
Although the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension reported that Papenheim was found near Grand Marais, his body was actually discovered in Lake County. On February 14, Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen confirmed that Papenheim had been found deceased, not in Grand Marais, but in Lake County.
Speaking for the Sheriff ’s Office, which had deputies traveling back roads in search of the young man, Sheriff Eliasen said, “Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
Papenheim’s sister Sarah stated in a Facebook post on Friday, “My brother Josh has been found but he is not here on this earth anymore. I hope he is somewhere way better and happier than here with no more pain. My heart hurts so badly.”
