Scotus Hocus Pocus

The Constitution of the United States guarantees every citizen freedom to believe anything. It calls it Freedom of Religion. In a recent decision the Supreme Court Of The United Sates (Scotus) rules that the Governor of the State of New York could not by decree limit the number of religious congregants gathering for church services. The Governor had cited public health and safety as grounds for his decree, referring to the chance of the corona virus spreading to the point of inflicting unusual high numbers of victims and deaths.

As citizens we chose a governor and government to impose safeguards on our public health and safety. Traffic laws are examples of such safeguards. If we follow the recent ruling of Scotus logically, we must allow people to disregard traffic laws and support their driving whichever way they want to, if they claim it is demanded by their religion.

Religious freedom makes me free to believe whatever I want, but not to do whatever I want. Scotus has turned Hocus Pocus!
