Schroeder batting 0 with emergency services planning

After reviewing the last issues of the Cook County News-Herald
and reading about EMS services in Schroeder Township, I have to assume that not all people are raised by the same standards. My dad taught me to never-never open a can of worms unless I was ready for the outcome. It is clear the town board supervisors responsible here in Schroeder did not learn that.

I’m not a rocket scientist, but if you’re writing checks out for emergency response for $5,000 and the bill for 2010 is $6,000, pay the bill.

But the board didn’t, and now after review, the EMS bill is $10,000. Way to go.

And when Fire Chief Phil Bonin gave his report at the February town meeting on new radio equipment for the new upcoming mandate, which will cost approximately $100,000, Supervisor Bill McKeever told him that they would close the fire department— it wasn’t affordable.

Sheriff Dave Wirt told Schroeder years ago, before his retirement, at a town meeting that this was coming, but nothing has been done to set aside funds for this. Why? If you reside in a no-service zone, which means no emergency services, your insurance rates could triple.

So far, the town board and Fire/ EMS, is batting 0. If they can’t take care of business, they need to go home…The annual town meeting is coming!
