TheSchroeder town board agreed on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 to loan $70,000 to Tofte Charters owner Darren Peck for the purchase of a new boat.
Peck said he is updating his business. His current boat is 21 feet long and 26 years old. He would like to get a bigger boat and a new motor, he said. He told the board that the North Shore has not had a boat big enough for large groups since the Grandpa Woo went out of business several years ago.
Peck has been in business 11 years. He employs another captain who works another boat, and he plans to continue using his old boat for charters as well.
Schroeder Town Supervisor Roger “Bill” McKeever said he is glad Peck’s business provides local employment opportunities.
Peck was awarded a seven-year loan at 3% interest. Schroeder’s revolving loan fund will have $9,290 after the loan to Peck, with one $4,400 loan in the process of being paid back. Deputy Clerk Gale Ring said the fund has had no other applicants since 2005.
