Three separate school drives sponsored by the Cook County Senior Center (Hub), Bethlehem Lutheran Church and employees of Cook County combined to raise, “about $1,000,” said Chris Bautch, program coordinator for Cook County Senior Center.

The three entities also took in and distributed a wide array of school materials, “From pencils, to paints, books to backpacks,” noted Bautch.

“We started August 1 and continued to September 30,” Chris said.

Each of the county’s four elementary schools, Sawtooth Mountain, Great Expectations, Birch Grove, and Oshki Ogimaag, will receive $250, added Bautch.

Why three separate school drives?

“We didn’t know that other groups were hosting drives. Once we all found out we were doing the same thing, we decided that next year we will combine our efforts and work together on the fund drive,” Bautch said.
