On Thursday, December 10, the Cook County High School and Middle School choirs will give their first combined concert since being re-constituted last year. The concert A Light in Winter will feature holiday and seasonal music from around the world, including Basque and French Christmas carols, Sankta Lucia sung in Swedish, a Hebrew candle blessing, and more. The concert will also feature guest soloist Karina Roth, soprano, and pianist Bill Beckstrand, as well as several singers from the school staff and community.
The choirs of Cook County Middle and High School were brought back after many years’ absence during the 2014-15 school year. A generous gift from an anonymous donor allowed the high school choir, under the direction of Erika Ternes, to continue this year. The middle school choir is directed by K-12 Music Instructor Kerri Bilben.
The performance will take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Thursday, December 10 at 7 p.m. Admission is free of charge. A freewill donation at the door will help cover costs such as music purchases, concert attire, supplies, and travel to the MN State High School League’s state competition.
