Is there ever a good time to ask people to pay more taxes? TheISD 166 School Board recognizes the fact that the country is in a recession. People are being forced to budget wisely and spend judiciously. ISD 166 is no different. We have faced declining funds for years and have responded by keeping the district solvent while maintaining the highest level of opportunity possible for our students. Our test scores, when compared to districts with much higher voter supported tax revenue, rank very well. We wouldn’t have been awarded a bronze medal by U.S. News and World
Report
as one of the Best High Schools
in America
if this were not the case.
So, when critics of our school levy tell you that the ISD 166 School Board has somehow failed the taxpayer, that we haven’t told you what the money will be spent on and that we simply need to live within our means, consider that over the past three years we have eliminated over $1.4 million worth of spending from our budget (21%). We have made deep and significant adjustments.
Rest assured, the ISD 166 School Board will continue to strive toward a quality educational experience for the students of Cook County. Our pledge to you, the taxpayer, is that your financial support will not be squandered.
