School board extends Dr. Crandall’s contract through 2018

The I.S.D. 166 school board extended superintendent Dr. William Crandall’s contract through 2017-2018, raising his 2016- 2017 salary from $47,977 to $56,464. Dr. Crandall’s workdays at the district also increased from 78 last year to 90 this year. This is Dr. Crandall’s second year at the helm of the school district.

In a joint powers agreement between Lake Superior Independent School District 381 and I.S.D. 166, Dr. Crandall also serves as superintendent of the public schools in Silver Bay and Two Harbors.

In his contract the school district will pay $50 per month toward his cell phone and match funds contributed to his 403b tax shelter annuity up to $6,000. Also, the district will compensate the superintendent for business use of his private vehicle and pay one-half of the membership dues for “organizations as are required, directed or permitted by the school board,” and half his traveling expenses associated with going to and from any meeting where Dr. Crandall represents both school districts.

Although offered health insurance, Dr. Crandall turned it down because he had other options available to him. The school district also agreed to provide liability insurance naming the superintendent as insured.

As part of his duties, Dr. Crandall will also oversee the community education program.

Before the shared agreement with Lake County, Cook County School District 166 paid the full cost of the superintendent.
