Five scholarships of $325 each are available for boys and girls wishing to attend this summer’s Minnesota Deer Hunters Association (MDHA) Forkhorn camps.
Local residents are encouraged to attend. In 2007, Levi and Karlee Axtell of Hovland went to Laurentian Environmental Center in Britt. Their dad, Treg, went along under the LEC “parents go free” program. In 2008, Nathan Carlson, Alexandria Palmer, and Rachel Wieben, all of Grand Marais, attended camp at Laurentian Environmental Center, and Justin and Tanner Tibodeau went to Deep Portage, near Hackensack. “I think that any one of these kids or Treg would tell you that it is a great program and that they had a good time at camp,” said Pete Harris, one of the local event organizers.
Forkhorn Camps I, II and III will be at the Laurentian Environmental Center in Britt. As camps fill up fast, applicants should contact the center for an application forms soon.
