Kieran Scannell has been representing Cook County quite well in New Hampshire where he attends a prep school and runs cross country. Kieran is undefeated this fall and recently recorded a time of 15:51 for 5k, a great time for a high school runner.

As a sophomore at Cook County High School, Kieran Scannell went to State in cross country running and placed 5th at the state track meet in the 1600- meter run (mile) with a time of 4:25, setting a CCHS record in the process.

But a chance to attend a prestigious college prep school out east was a chance of a lifetime, and so Kieran transferred to finish his last two years of school at Philips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire.

This fall the former track and cross country standout for CCHS is once again running at a high level. Kieran, the son of Tim Scannell and Lynn Swanson, Grand Marais, is undefeated in cross country out east. Recently he set a course record of 15:51 for the 5k run (3.1 miles) which would put him easily in the top 10 in Minnesota for Class A cross country runners, and top 20 overall.

Kieran also participates in jazz band and is handling the heavy schoolwork load well, said his father.
