Scannell running for Williams College

Coming off illness that thwarted his track season, sophomore Kieran Scannell joined Williams College’s nationally ranked Division 3 college cross country team, the Ephs. After missing the first three meets, Scannell recently competed for the third-ranked Ephs. Last year the Ephs placed 5th at nationals.

As a freshman, Scannell placed third in the conference meet with an 8K time of 26 minutes. In his first race of the season Scannell placed 66 out of 235 runners at Lehigh’s Purple Classic cross country meet. The Ephs placed second out of 21 teams.

Scannell’s time was 28:03 on the tough 8K course, a 5:39 mile average.

A talented miler, Kieran set the Cook County High School record as a sophomore with a time of 4:25. He finished his last two years of high school out east at prep school. If Scannell stays healthy his times will fall fast and he will be a strong bet to make the Eph’s top seven varsity runners.

Kieran is the son of Tim and Lynn Scannell of Grand Marais.
