Sawtooth Mountain Steering Committee seeks public input

The Sawtooth Bluff Steering Committee is seeking input on possible amenities and uses for the 640-acre publicly owned site located in the city limits of Grand Marais.

Based on its location and size, it has the potential to be the center point of a Cook County Trail Hub System and to integrate other types of development.

Recently, Cook County sought and received Minnesota’s Lake Superior Coastal Program STAR grant funding to create a vision and develop a master plan for this site.

The city of Grand Marais is partnering with the county on this project, and a steering committee has been developed to coordinate this process. The Arrowhead Regional Development Commission (ARDC) is providing planning support and technical assistance. Additional information can be found at www.ardc.org/sawtoothbluff.

You are invited to submit ideas and suggested uses for this site via an interactive, web-based map which can be accessed by clicking on this link or pasting this address into a web browser: bit.ly/SawtoothPublicInputPhase1. Instructions for completing the form are included on the interactive map and are also attached.

All feedback and suggestions must be provided by December 8, 2017.

You can also email suggestions directly to Lisa Kerr at lisa.kerr@co.cook.mn.us

All ideas submitted by the deadline will be reviewed by the steering committee and evaluated for feasibility and alignment with the vision for the site. Based upon steering committee recommendations, a proposed site plan will be developed and a second public input process (Phase 2) will be conducted in early 2018.
